John Watrous was one of the eight founders of Fort Hill Cemetery.
He was also Mayor of Auburn in 1855.
John Watrous ran a hardware store in Auburn's early days {"Watrous & Hyde").
Legend has it that when a young David M. Osborne first came to town,
he worked in Watrous' store as a clerk.

The Watrous lot is located in the Fort Alleghan section of Fort Hill Cemetery.
